Duas for Anxiety and Worry

قَلَق
Anxiety pulls the heart into a future that has not yet been written. The Quran and Sunnah answer it with remembrance: "Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest" (Quran 13:28).
These authentic duas were the Prophet's ﷺ own refuge in moments of worry — recite them slowly, with their meanings present in the heart.

1. Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs
Recited by Ibrahim (AS) when cast into the fire, and by the Prophet ﷺ before Uhud. Also the dhikr of those who trust Allah's plan for the future. (Bukhari)
Source: Quran 3:173

2. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal hammi wal hazan, wa a'udhu bika minal 'ajzi wal kasal

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal hammi wal hazan, wa a'udhu bika minal 'ajzi wal kasal
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyum
Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining
The greatest verse in the Quran. Reciting it brings protection and tranquility. (Muslim)

Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne
Whoever says this seven times morning and evening, Allah suffices them in all affairs. (Abu Dawud)
Source: Quran 9:129

5. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.
Ibrahim (AS) said this when cast into fire. The Prophet ﷺ said it before the Battle of Uhud. (Bukhari 4563)

Frequently Asked Questions

Which dua did the Prophet ﷺ say for anxiety?

He frequently sought refuge from worry and grief with "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan..." (Bukhari 6369), and taught Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa seven times morning and evening for whoever is overcome by concerns (Abu Dawud).

Does dhikr actually help with anxiety?

Allah promises that hearts find rest in His remembrance (Quran 13:28). Repetitive, focused dhikr also slows breathing and calms the nervous system — the spiritual and physiological benefits reinforce each other.
