SubhanAllah — Meaning, Virtues & When to Say It
SubhanAllah comes from the root س-ب-ح — to glorify and declare transcendent. Saying it affirms that Allah is free of every imperfection, limitation, and resemblance to His creation.
It is one third of the post-prayer tasbih (33 times after every salah) and among the four phrases the Prophet ﷺ called "the most beloved speech to Allah" (Muslim 2137).
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ
Subhan Allah
Glory be to God
Virtue and Source
Praising Allah's perfection
When to Recite It
Say SubhanAllah 33 times after each prayer, when witnessing something awe-inspiring in creation, when surprised, and freely throughout the day. Combined as "SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi" 100 times daily, it erases sins even if they are like the foam of the sea (Bukhari 6405).
