Allahu Akbar — Meaning, Virtues & When to Say It

Allahu Akbar declares that Allah is greater — greater than every worry, every desire, and everything that competes for the heart. It opens every salah and marks every movement within it.
A Muslim who prays the five daily prayers says the takbir nearly a hundred times a day, constantly re-centering life around the Greatest.
اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
Allahu Akbar
God is the Greatest

Virtue and Source

Affirming Allah's greatness

When to Recite It

The takbir is said at the start of prayer and every transition in it, 33-34 times in the post-prayer tasbih, on the days of Eid, when ascending a height while travelling, and at moments of joy or victory.
Count this dhikr daily in Dhikr Garden — every recitation waters a tree in your garden.
