Adhkar After Salah — Dhikr After Every Prayer

The moments after the obligatory prayer are among the most virtuous times for dhikr. The Prophet ﷺ kept a fixed routine of remembrance after every salah — seeking forgiveness, glorifying Allah, and sealing the prayer with tasbih.

Practised five times a day, these short remembrances add up to nearly 500 counted glorifications daily.

1. Istighfar after Salah

Recite 3x

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ

Astaghfirullah.

I seek forgiveness from Allah.

2. Allahumma Antas-Salam

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلَامُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلَامُ، تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Allaahumma antas-salaam wa minkas-salaam, tabaarakta yaa dhal-jalaali wal-ikraam.

O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.

3. Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar

Recite 33x

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

Subhaanal-laah, alhamdu lillaah, allaahu akbar.

Glory be to Allah, All praise be to Allah, Allah is the Greatest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What dhikr is said immediately after salah?

Astaghfirullah three times, then "Allahumma antas-salam wa minkas-salam, tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram" (Muslim 591). After that comes the tasbih: SubhanAllah 33, Alhamdulillah 33, Allahu Akbar 33 or 34.

Why is tasbih after prayer 33 times?

The Prophet ﷺ taught 33 repetitions of each phrase, completing 100 with "La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah..." — whoever does so is forgiven his sins even if they are like the foam of the sea (Muslim 597).
